Lord, Turn on the Air Conditioner

Published June 15th

As many of you know I live in the desert. It was my choice. Some would say a poor choice! And if I am honest, sometimes I question that choice, especially when our summer time heat arrives. And, man oh man has it arrived!! Three consecutive days of triple digit weather, 108 – 110 – 113, in this desert I call home. But I love the desert! It is a love affair that started over thirty-five years ago. It is a love affair that some would say is a strange love affair. Part of this love affair I have with […]

Very Broken

Published June 6th

As Christians we sometimes become jaded, disappointed, and overwhelmed, with what we perceive as a lack of progress, in broken and bankrupt lives being repaired. It is often tempting to just, “throw in the towel,” and say there is nothing else we can do. I know I am guilty of this! So, I thank God for the timely reminders and checks of my attitude. One such reminder I was recently given hit right at the heart of the matter.   As an ordained minister serving as Chaplain for Compassion Nevada, I am often asked to help, assist, and counsel with individuals […]

Temptation: What the Bible Says

Published May 24th

Basic Teaching and Instruction from the Bible 1 Corinthians 10:13-16 Amplified Bible (AMP) 13 For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not [a]adjusted and [b]adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you […]

Love Your Enemies

Published May 21st

Matthew 5:43-48 (NIV) Love for Enemies 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? […]

Prayer

Published May 14th

Prayer is simply a two-way conversation between you and God. Billy Graham Psalm 28 (NIV) Of David. 1 To you, Lord, I call; you are my Rock,     do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit. 2 Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place…………. Prayer is such an important part in maintaining and building our relationship with God. Although I absolutely agree with the quote on prayer by Billy Graham, I […]

Honoring Your Mother

Published May 12th

Jesus Remembers (Honors) His Mother When Jesus saw his mother, And the disciple whom he loved standing near, He said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”                 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.  Gospel of John 19:26-27 As we honor our mothers this month, it is interesting to note that Jesus honored his mother also. In the story of Jesus as a boy at the temple, the narrative ends with the acknowledgement that Jesus obeyed his mother (Luke. 2: 41-51).  When His mother asked […]

Focus On the Cross

Published May 9th

My prayer for all my readers: If you find yourself facing difficult and challenging times this week, my prayer is that you will stay focused on the cross. If we focus on all that was defeated, and all that was gained, by Christ’s death on the cross, our personal difficult and challenging times will seem less significant. Focusing on the Cross! Is It Cancer?

Published April 29th

I have a history of skin cancer. Every few years a suspicious spot or discoloration will appear on my face or body. With three positive identifications of cancer, and their successful removal by the skin cancer doctors, I am now pretty confident in my own diagnosis when another suspicious spot develops. However, the only way to be absolutely sure, is to have a portion of the spot excised and examined under a microscope by the cancer specialists. Only then can the severity of the cancer be diagnosed and the proper course of treatment is subscribed. This is such a perfect […]

Is God Your Engineer?

Published April 23rd

“When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.”  ― Corrie ten Boom Lord, please help me to have this kind of trust in You! Dave, Rev. David Larsen

Sunrise

Published April 21st

This poem by Jeff Bidiman captures some of the passion I have for sunrises. I trust you will be blessed by it! Sunrise by Jeff Bidiman Today I saw the sun arise Quietly from its starry bed, And in that inspiring moment, It aroused my somnolent head. I gazed amazed at God’s creation. Mesmerized by the stunning view: The dazzling red, the glowing gold, The bright brilliance of the blue. The dew on the grass glittered like Gems to these enchanted eyes. The birds took wing for dawn’s first flight Upon hearing the trees soft sighs. The drowsy stars and […]
