I want it now! Due it now!

‘Now’, just three letters, but a huge and troublesome word.

‘Now’, when used in the context of immediacy and self –gratification, and with the attitude of I don’t want to wait, can and does cause great damage and loss. It has a very negative effect on the world. I doubt there is no one who has not fallen prey to the thought and immediate action of ‘now’. The evil and wrong actions committed under the influence of ‘now’ can be testified to by everyone. Accounts of heart ache, emotional damage as well as loss of life and property are astronomical.

But, there is also a good and positive context of ‘now’. When used in the context of immediacy and quickness in a warning or command, it is effective in keeping one out of danger with the possibility of physical harm or death and loss of property.

Stop, now! Come here, now! Get ready, now! All warnings and commands we have either given or received ourselves. These usually are given so a positive not negative action is taken.

‘Now’, when used in this context, clearly illustrates the urgency of God’s admonition to enter His ‘rest’ or salvation. When we enter into His ‘rest’, we no longer depend upon the futility of our works to gain salvation. We ‘rest’ in Jesus Christ, sacrificed on the cross for our salvation. God’s work is completed at Calvary. When Jesus cried out “it is finished” (John 19: 29-30) then God’s work of salvation was complete. He ‘rests’ from his work. When God tells us he has set a certain day, calling it ‘Today’ (Heb. 4), he is referring to the urgency of ‘now’ in accepting Christ. Today is the day, not tomorrow, not next year, not when you feel like it, but ‘now’ is the time.

Will you make your decision now? With a sincere heart admit that you are a sinner. Believe that Christ as God, died for your sins. Confess that Jesus Christ is both God and Savior of the world and you too will enter into your ‘rest’.

John 3:16, Acts 2:21, 4:12, 16:29-31, Ro.10:13.

Now, is the time!
