Matthew 11:28-30

New International Version (NIV)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

#2 “Gods says I will give you rest.”

Jesus was addressing the heavy and burdensome load of religious legalism placed on man by the Pharisees and Sadducees. If every dot and titles of the law were not obeyed their salvation was considered to be in jeopardy. Often times, even in today’s world, the yoke of religion can become a heavy load to bear. In the Jewish culture a yoke is a particular teaching, doctrine, or theology. Every Rabbi had his own disciples who were tutored under his yoke. They were all heavily influenced by the law of the Old Testament covenant. That is why Jesus was considered to be so radical by the religious leaders. He was offering a new covenant, a new yoke, one that is easy and the burden is light.

Jesus yoke is simple, (John 3:16, Acts 2:21, 4:12, Ro.10:9-10, 13)

John 3:16

New International Version (NIV)

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

No more legalism where the law is the master.  Now it’s a relationship. Jesus is the Master, he is the Savior, we are the saved. Because of His love for you, Jesus died for you. He asks in return to believe in Him, to call on Him, and to love Him.

This is where we receive the rest. Our souls are no longer burdened by the impossibility of obedience to the law. We are saved by grace, by the washing of His blood. His new teaching (yoke) will show us and lead us on our own personal path of righteousness.  His way is much easier to follow than the burden of the law.

God says I will give you rest.  Will you accept it?

Call on the name of Jesus today. Today is your day of rest!

Rest in Him,
