He Is Faithful

2 Thessalonians 3:3

New International Version (NIV)

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

In my service as Chaplain for Compassion Nevada and as an ordained minister I am often asked, how do you overcome temptation and sin. My response, the overcoming begins when you establish a relationship with Jesus Christ. It must start with an acknowledgement that you are a sinner and because of your sin you need a Savior to forgive, cleanse you, and help you overcome your sins. You must acknowledge it was Jesus as God who gave his life so you may be justified and cleansed of your sins (1 John 1: 9).

Remember, I said the overcoming starts. It does not end when we take on the title of Christian. If any thing the saved are challenged with a greater ferocity because Satan knows he has lost you and will do everything in his power to bring about your destruction.

This is why it is so important to read and gain an understanding of God’s word (Bible). It’s His word that defeats the evil one. We know this because we have the example o f Jesus and his response to Satan when he was being tempted (Matt 4: 1- 11). In the Bible we are given promises from God that will help us overcome and defeat the enemy. I particularly like (2 Thess. 3: 3).  We  are given three promises from God to help us in our struggles. He is faithful, we are strengthened by Him, and we are protected.

Take this scripture to heart memorize it. Personalize it as a prayer to God when you are tempted. “Oh God, I know you are faithful. Strengthen me and protect me from this temptation!” He is faithful (1 Cor. 1: 9), why not give it a try?

One more scripture of encouragement:

1 Corinthians 10:12-13

New Living Translation (NLT)

12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Be triumphant in Him,
