Instruction from Proverbs

Proverbs 3:5-6

New International Version (NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.[a]

Verse five is one of the most recognizable and memorized Proverbs. Verse six, regrettably, is seldom used. You see it is the, “in all your ways submit to me” part, we avoid.

Look out! Here comes the, “it’s too hard, it’s not fair, I don’t understand, and I don’t want to change.”  However, this is the key that allows us access to God’s heart and mind for us. He wants us to submit too Him, trust Him, His teaching, and His instruction. Our own understanding and our own ways will never be sufficient for dealing with the never ending problems and challenges of life!

Next, in chapter one, the purpose and theme of Proverbs are clearly laid out. If you trust and then apply an understanding of what God has to say, blessings will follow. Your New Year will be off to a good start!

Until then and always, trust in the Lord!
