His Gift

Isaiah 9:6

New International Version (NIV)

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

His Gift

I am in traffic on a constant basis, both city and freeway driving. I see many strange and unusual things. One of the more frequent strange thing I see is drivers who appear to be talking to themselves. Of course they are not. At least I don’t think the majority of them are. There may be a few drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs who may carry on a conversation with themselves. I hope this is a rare occasion. As often as I witness this event it is still rather startling.

I live in a state where there can be no use of hand-held cellular phones while driving. Because of this law most drivers have some sort of hands free device that allows them to talk while driving. This may be a device that is part of a vehicles accessories our perhaps some individuals have a device that fits in their ear. In either case the device is usually invisible or very hard to see. So when you see a person talking you may not see a phone but there is a phone conversation taking place. Often times it is amusing to watch as you see a contortion of mouth and lips moving with no sound being emitted, particularly if there are signs of laughter and the pursing of lips indicating some one is getting a kiss. Other times, it is quite obvious there is an argument with cursing taking place. There is no missing the anger and displeasure being displayed in the exaggerated hand waving or the extreme white knuckle gripping of the steering wheel. One would have to be blind not to see the screams of anger displayed in the bulging neck veins and wrinkled contorted facial muscles.

Silent anger is what I see. And though the anger is silent to me it is not silent to the person on the other end! And there is a loss of peace to both parties, a peace that may never be recovered again. How sad this is! How can we avoid this?

Simply accept the wonderful gift given to us by ‘The One’ whose birth we celebrate this Christmas Season. Accept His priceless gift of Peace! He offers and freely gives this gift to all.

Will you accept Jesus, the Prince of Peace, today?

His gift to you in return:

John 14:27

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Be at peace, Dave
